Banzai Pipeline

The Banzai Pipeline is world renouned for it's epic surf sessions. Besides being the most spectacular waves in the world, the Banzai Pipeline's waves can also be the most dangerous.The waves are steep and powerful and can come up within seconds.

Winter is surf season at Banzai Pipeline. Traffic becomes heavy everywhere on the North Shore, but is especially congested here as residents and visitors drive from all over the island to see the Banzai Pipeline and its challengers in action. On a big day at the Banzai Pipeline spectators and photographers crowd the beach to watch an international mix of surfers ride some of Hawai’i’s most dangerous waves.

The waveso break furiously on the shallow reef and have caused many broken bones and lacerations. The Banzai Pipeline has some of the best sandbar type surf on O`ahu . During calmer periods, usually during the Spring and Summer, swimming is good, otherwise it's very hazardous, so take good care.

If you are not familiar with the Banzai Pipeline and have concerns about safety consult the lifeguard on duty. Always use common sense if you are not an experienced surfer or bodyboarder stay out of the water. Be aware of the breaks as certain areas have jagged coral heads that emerge out of the water.
